Humanae Physical Therapy

Humanae Physical Therapy is a sole proprietorship owned and operated by mother of 2, Becky Wooster, PT, DPT, She is an expert in movement and function of the pregnant and postpartum body and has been a yoga teacher for 13 years.

Pregnancy and birth of a baby is something just shy of a miracle. Though the female body was “made for it,” she also takes the toll of aches & pains, torn tissue, strained ligaments, and resulting weakness in the pelvic floor and abdominals from growing and carrying a baby for 9 months. The changes to a woman’s body are certainly normal, but only to a certain extent and time period. Becky, PT will examine your body as a moving structure whose parts work together; you will not be treated as a “body part.”

Pregnancy

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends exercise for overall health benefits during pregnancy, though recommendations of type, frequency, duration, and to what degree are vague and should be individualized. Physical therapists are experts of the movement system and are educated to safely and effectively prescribe exercises to relieve your pain and prepare your body for labor and delivery.

Common pregnancy conditions treated at Humanae PT – low back pain (of course! you don’t have to suffer through it though!), sciatica, SI joint dysfunction, pubic pain, rib pain, mid-back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain and headache, incontinence (it’s never too late to train the pelvic floor and get your posture aligned)

Postpartum

The ACOG recommends resuming exercise during the postnatal period on an individual basis 4-6 weeks after birth. With the clearance from your midwife or OB/GYN, physical therapy may begin. Becky will hear and understand your concerns for gaining optimal health and you will set goals for your therapy. She will educate you on your physical dysfunctions and prescribe exercises to fix those dysfunctions to achieve your goals. Additionally, you will receive hands-on manual therapy and exercise guidance.

Common postpartum conditions treated at Humanae PT – incontinence (no it’s not normal at 4 weeks postpartum or 4 years postpartum – empower yourself to fix it!), lower back pain, upper back pain, neck pain, breastfeeding issues with positioning and recurrent mastitis (education on lymph massage, shoulder girdle stretching and strengthening), diastasis recti, generalized weakness.

Please be evaluated by a physical therapist before resuming any exercise routine postpartum.
